Many works by this sculptor can be seen in the capital Prague. \u010cern\u00fd likes to comment on politics and his works are controversial. But that was also the intention.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>David \u010cern\u00fd is a creative rebel not only because of his unusual rockstar image in the Czech Republic, but in particular because of his art. \u010cern\u00fd&#8217;s art provokes. Humor with a nod to politics is a constant in his work. He has exhibited all over the world and continues to love playing jokes and mystifications. Most of David \u010cern\u00fd&#8217;s work can be admired in the public space. In addition to traditional art, he has also been involved in cultural activism, filming and techno music in recent years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"948\" height=\"711\" src=\"https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35142\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-3.jpg 948w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-3-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-3-816x612.jpg 816w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 948px) 100vw, 948px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pink tank<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>David \u010cern\u00fd first rose to fame when he painted a Soviet tank pink on Kinsk\u00fd Square in Prague in 1991. It was a monument to Soviet tank crews in World War II. His act was considered civil disobedience. President Vaclav Havel spoke of an &#8220;understandable expression of youthful feelings.&#8221; Only the Czechoslovak authorities and the Russian government were less fond of the artwork. Cern\u00fd was convicted of vandalism and the tank was repainted to its original olive green color as soon as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"910\" height=\"542\" src=\"https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-1-.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35143\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-1-.jpg 910w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-1--300x179.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-1--768x457.jpg 768w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-1--816x486.jpg 816w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 910px) 100vw, 910px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tower Babies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That did not hinder his growing fame. He received many commissions and made, among other things, &#8216;Tower Babies&#8217; in 2000, babies who climbed the \u017di\u017ekov TV tower, in 2003, &#8216;Brown nosers&#8217; and in 2004 the humorous &#8216;The Piss&#8217; &#8211; two bronze statues urinating in front of the Franz Kafka-museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two brown \u2018noser sculptures\u2019 are hidden in the backyard of Futura, an art museum. The gigantic, naked lower halves of two bodies are bent over and lean against the side of the building, revealing their rather gaping openings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35144\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-4.jpg 620w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-4-300x194.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Viewers are invited to climb the ladder that leads to the macroscopic derrieres and put their heads in the behemoths. There is a television screen where a video is played of two Czech politicians feeding each other with a spoon with the music &#8220;We Are the Champions&#8221; by Queen in the background. It was \u010cern\u00fd&#8217;s interpretation of the state of Czech politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shark<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2005, \u010cern\u00fd created &#8220;Shark&#8221;, an image of Saddam Hussein in a tank of formaldehyde. The work was presented at the second Prague Biennale. The work is a direct parody of Damien Hirst\u2019s Shark, &nbsp;&#8220;The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living\u201d from 1991. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-5.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35145\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-5.jpeg 700w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-5-300x214.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On the occasion of the Czech Presidency of Europe in 2009, he created &#8220;Entropa&#8221;. The statue was originally on display in the Justus Lipsius building in Brussels. From 2010 to 2012, the statue was on display at the Techmania Science Center in Pilsen. Every European country had an appropriate image in the whole. Some countries were angry, for example Bulgaria. That was represented by a collection of squat toilets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"563\" height=\"373\" src=\"https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35146\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-6.jpg 563w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-6-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 563px) 100vw, 563px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Metalmorphosis<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2011, \u010cern\u00fd created Metalmorphosis, a mirror sculpture, for Whitehall Technology Park in Charlotte, North Carolina. The work consists of nearly 40 steel pieces grouped into seven segments that can independently rotate 360 degrees. The mouth spits water into an adjacent pond. In 2014 he created a similar outdoor sculpture in Prague called &#8220;Head of Franz Kafka\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, \u010cern\u00fd created &#8220;London Booster&#8221; &#8211; a double-decker bus with mechanical arms for push-ups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"694\" src=\"https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-8-1024x694.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35147\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-8-1024x694.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-8-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-8-768x521.jpg 768w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-8-1536x1041.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-8-2048x1388.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/inzaken.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/cerny-8-816x553.jpg 816w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Upside-down horse<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2013, a purple middle finger, almost five meters long, floated on a pontoon on the Vltava near the Charles Bridge. It pointed in the direction of Prague Castle, where President, Milos Zeman, was seated. In this way David Cerny wanted to warn the population for a return of repressive politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Particularly popular in Prague is the upside-down horse, ridden by Saint Wenceslas. It hangs from the ceiling of the Art Nouveau Lucerna Palace.
